I am the Principal Bassoonist with the Orchestra Of Opera North. Over the last 25 years (in addition to my duties here at Opera North) I have regularly played guest principal bassoon with nearly all the orchestras in the UK. Recent engagements include  the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (London), City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, English National Opera (London) and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (London). I also have broadcast on BBC radio 3 as a soloist, and recorded chamber music for Kingdom, Teledisc & the EMI labels. 

REEDMAKING 

The variety of my work has helped me develop a reed that is a good 'all rounder' without compromising on tone.

I am very selective with the cane I use and will only use pieces of a certain density which I test for after gouging on a Potratz Hardness Tester. This step adds to the consistency of my reeds.
